VOLUNTEERING
We have a wonderful group of dedicated Volunteers helping us with events, our mini-festivals, and with the day to day running of the organisation and the building. We are always looking to welcome new people to our team – will you join us?
Being a Volunteer is rewarding and sociable; we are a welcoming, committed and enthusiastic group of varying ages and talents. There are many different roles available, and any time that you can offer would be gladly received – there are no ‘minimum hours’ or ‘set days’. If you are part of the Events Team, there is usually an opportunity to watch the event for which you are volunteering – including world-class music, popular films, fantastic theatre, and brilliant comedy.
Once every quarter, all Volunteers who have contributed a defined number of hours over that period are offered a free ticket for an event of their choice.
To find out more, please check out the role descriptions below.
If you would like to register your interest, please fill in the form at the end of this page, or click here to go straight to it. Or, if you would like to find out more first, then please contact our Volunteers Co-ordinator at , or leave a message on our main Shed phone line: 01666 505496.
Volunteer Roles on the Events Team
Duty Managers
As Duty Manager you will be responsible for overseeing operations of the theatres, box office and bar service during events. This includes liaising with the Office and Event Managers on theatre layout, managing takings, and assisting any technicians. Hours are predominantly during evening and weekends. Duty Managers will be required to undergo First Aid training, provided by Tetbury Goods Shed.

Event Managers
The Event Manager is the point of contact for all our visiting performers. They liaise with the office pre-event, to ensure we have enough staff to cover all roles for each event, including any technical support that may be required. For an event, they work in tandem with the Duty Manager to ensure that the Shed is ready and prepared for each performance, setting out the venue layout, welcoming each act, and providing any additional requirements that a specific event might need.

Bar
Are you good in a public facing role? Our Bar operates at nearly every event, and from taking orders to carrying the beers, it usually takes a team of 3 or 4 – could you be part of this vibrant friendly team?

Box Office
With the most contact with our audiences, our Box Office teams are a friendly bunch – responsible for selling and taking tickets, showing people to their seats, and liaising with Event Managers about event requirements.

Set-up
We have a wonderful varied possibilities of layout for different events, but only a limited amount of storage facilities. We welcome help from anyone willing to help us with the moving and shifting so often needed. This includes set-up and dismantling the stage, setting out the café layout in the hall, moving furniture and equipment.
Technicians and Cinema Projectionists
Ideally with a background in sound or lighting (or a passion for learning the ropes!) our technicians are absolutely vital for our events – from rigging the lights, to plugging in the mics, to simply setting up the projector for a PowerPoint presentation. Our team of projectionists are responsible for the showings of our Thursday Cinema. If you are technically minded, we would love to hear from you!
Cinema Manager
Are you passionate about Film? Do you see yourself leading our cinema programme at The Shed? We are currently seeking a new Cinema Manager, to decide on and promote our weekly Thursday Films! This is a large role, and could be perfect for the right person!
Non-Event Volunteer Roles
Foyer
We try to staff the foyer in two-hour slots as often as possible. This is a very sociable duty, where you are behind the foyer desk, meeting and greeting visitors during the daytime opening hours, and answering any questions that they might have, or directing people to the appropriate person/information source. The foyer staff also liaise with the office if there are tickets requested, and deal with sales from any artwork or cards that are on display. They also keep an eye on the main Shed to keep it tidy during opening hours.
General Volunteers
There are always jobs to be done at The Shed! From moving staging and tables, watering the plants, delivering leaflets, and holding ladders, if you have even a couple of hours a month to help out – this is for you!
Restoration, Development, and Gardening
Our building is continually evolving. If you have practical skills to assist with our on-going restoration and building work, please get in contact.
Behind the Scenes
Do you want to have a hand in what happens at The Shed? We are always very happy to welcome those that prefer to help behind the scenes. For example, to aid with fundraising, marketing and promotion of both our week-to-week events, and our annual festivals and larger events. Or in any area that you have expertise that you think may be useful. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Work Volunteer Programmes or similar
We can provide short term volunteering for those completing volunteering under various programmes, ideally candidates will be over 18.
