Originally composed as a film score for a 1955 Soviet adaptation of Ethel Voynich’s novel, The Gadfly, and particularly beloved for its lyrical string writing and sweeping melodies.

Viv McLean – piano
British pianist Viv McLean – vivmclean.com – studied at the Royal Academy of Music and is known for his expressive playing and technical mastery.
He has won prestigious awards, performed at major venues across the world, and recorded for renowned labels, including Classic FM, Sony, and Signum Classics.

Bristol Ensemble
Bristol Ensemble – bristolensemble.com – is a dynamic collective of specialist musicians. Since its foundation in 1994, Bristol Ensemble has collaborated with many of the world’s finest performers, including Nicola Benedetti, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Freddy Kempf, Matthew Barley, Alan Schiller, Willard White, Emma Kirkby, James Bowman and Gabriel Prokofiev.
Equally at home in the recording studio, Bristol Ensemble has contributed to numerous soundtracks for film and television, including award-winning productions for the BBC, Aardman Animations and Channel 4.
Deeply committed to its charitable work within Bristol and the wider community, its Preludes Music initiative provides transformative musical experiences to more than 3,000 children each year and partners with local charities to present fundraising concerts and events.
