We are thrilled and delighted to welcome back such an outstanding pianist. Ryan Wang’s original concert here at the Goods Shed created such excitement and several standing ovations that it seemed natural to invite him back just as possible.
Last time his programme included Mozart, Schubert and Mussorgsky. This time around it includes Brahms, Handel, Schubert and a piece by Florence Price that adapts the spiritual “Sinner, Please Don’t Let This Harvest Pass,” blending traditional elements of African American hymns and folk songs with the swooning Romantic styles of Chopin and Brahms.
Programme
Handel: Keyboard Suite No 1 in B flat major HWV 434
Schubert: Four Impromptus op 142
INTERVAL
Price: Fantasie Negre no 1
Brahms: Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel op 24
Ryan began his musical training at the age of four under Lee Kum Sing and Sunsung Kong; at 13, he moved to the UK on a music scholarship at Eton College, where he studied with Gareth Owen.
In 2024 he graduated with an Artist Diploma from the École Normale de Musique de Paris under Marian Rybicki. He continues his studies at the Harvard-New England Conservatory Dual-Degree program with Wha Kyung Byun.
During the 2025/26 season, Ryan debuted with Philharmonia Orchestra as part of a Rachmaninov Piano Concerto cycle, as well as with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, and Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra.
He also appears for the first time at several first-class festivals, including the Festival International de Piano de La Roque d’Anthéron, Edinburgh International Festival (see video above), Paris Chopin Festival, and Festival International de Piano de Biarritz.
