Klezmer Foygl, meaning ‘Klezmer Songbird’ in Yiddish, is an exciting new ensemble playing both traditional and original Klezmer repertoire.

The Klezmer musical tradition of the Ashkenazi Jews of Central and Eastern Europe includes dance tunes, ritual melodies and virtuosic improvisations. These would have been played at weddings and other social functions.

Klezmer Foygl is led by clarinettist John Macnaughton and features some of the UK’s leading Klezmer musicians. The group, while deeply grounded in traditional Yiddish music, simultaneously seeks to innovate upon and bring a contemporary twist to its repertoire.

Its members are John Macnaughton – clarinet; Josh Middleton – accordion; Theo Malka-Wishart – double bass, and Christina Borgenstierna – poik. They’ve played at some of the UK’s leading music venues, toured internationally and performed for television and theatre.

Advance tickets are £16. On the door on the night they will cost £20. There will also be a small selection of tables available.
