For this concert, BBC Young Musician finalist Sofía Patterson, flute, is accompanied by Milda Daunoraite who dazzled audiences with her electrifying solo piano performance at our inaugural Lunchtime Concert
Sofía won the Royal Academy of Music’s Piccolo Prize in her first year, and the Altus William Bennett flute prize the next. Already building up an impressive performance resume, Sofia has been guest principal with the Aurora Orchestra at the Aldeburgh Music Festival, and with the Philharmonia’s Music of Today ensemble.
Sofía is currently studying with Michael Cox at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2022 Sofía won the BBC Young Musician Woodwind Final which led her to perform the Ibert Flute Concerto with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Mark Wigglesworth in the Grand Final.
She previously studied at Chetham’s School of Music, where she studied with Fiona Fulton and explored jazz with Iain Dixon and Les Chisnall. Sofía has recently performed at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany as a soloist and chamber musician representing the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT)
She held the position of principal flute with the National Youth Orchestra in 2022 and 2023. A highlight of her time with the NYO includes performing Daphnis et Chloé at the BBC Proms and she has since returned to play with NYO Inspire, their outreach programme. She was also invited by NYO to play alongside fellow alumni at a concert at the Wigmore Hall.
A dedicated chamber musician, Sofía is a founding member of the Dogoda Quintet which was formed in 2024 with fellow musicians from the Royal Academy and has performed in a variety of venues across the UK.
