Song Sister singers Hilary Malcolm and Maita Robinson, together with pianist Clare Toomer, have put together a recital programme of Art Song (poetry set to music) and spirituals.

They have drawn on their individual tastes and experience to present works by mostly female and black musicians; many of whom have been marginalised up until the recent past.

This programme is widely varied, ranging from the more traditional to modern and humorous.

The aim is to show the diversity of music styles and the richness of the poems in their desire to give an insight into the lives of women in different era; from the early nineteenth century through to today.

Above all, the performers wish to honour the great talent and previously overlooked work of many women composers because of gender and/or race. The programme will also include spirituals which are historically connected to American Music styles of today.

Do come and join us – you can enjoy some super music, meet your friends as well as maybe making new ones.  Advance tickets are just £3.50 (plus booking fee)  Please note that on the door they cost £4,

And our Whistle Stop Café will be open if you fancy a nice cup of tea (or coffee) and Sasha’s cakes are more than delicious – what a lovely way to spend an afternoon. There will be a selection of tables and chairs set out in the hall for you to choose from on arrival.
