Like D-Day, it started on the beaches.

Troubled by the proliferation of all shapes and sizes of lost, stray and discarded sea-drift plastic washed upon our shores, Stroud-based artist Robert Hider became increasingly fascinated by the textures and metamorphoses of the materials.

Though not his own term, ‘Artivism’ became a theme. How to transform the visible yet invisible crises of the by-products of our industrial civilisation?

Playful yet serious in intent, Robert’s work repurposes waste plastics; transforming the by-products of our industrial civilisation to explore themes of fragmentation and connection and the visible yet invisible crises of our age.

Closed Mondays and Tuesdays and occasionally for other events in the main hall: we recommend you call first if travelling a distance to avoid disappointment.

Meet the Artist – Robert will be at The Shed on Saturday 3rd May 11am-1pm and you are invited to come along and meet him and get a better understanding of his works and the inspiration behind them
