London Tango Quintet at the movies explores tango’s enduring relationship with cinema through a programme of music that has shaped some of film’s most memorable moments, from Gardel’s Por una Cabeza and Piazzolla’s Last Tango in Paris to “Tango de Roxanne” from Moulin Rouge.
Performed by the London Tango Quintet’s distinguished line-up of internationally acclaimed musicians, each with major careers in the classical music world as soloists, chamber musicians and orchestral artists, the programme draws on the ensemble’s deep understanding of the tango tradition and the exceptional artistry of its players.

In 1921, a two-and-a-half-minute dance shot a little-known Italian actor to global stardom. Ever since Rudolf Valentino’s appearance in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, generations of film makers have found the intensity and passion of tango irresistible.
Sean Connery, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jennifer Lopez are just a few of the many stars who have tangoed on screen. A tango always carries the plot forward.
For James Bond it was his chance to outwit a villain, the Addams Family found its funny side, but it is the climactic scene from Moulin Rouge starring Nicole Kidman and Euan MacGregor which revealed the explosive, emotional power of the tango.
Join the London Tango Quintet in an unforgettable evening of tango from the silver screen.
