Enjoy a relaxed Sunday afternoon of music with two of the finest folk acts around.
Cobblers Child (cobblerschild.co.uk) are a four-piece band of multi-instrumentalists from Gloucestershire, featuring the unique sound of the Northumbrian Pipes. Along with tales from the Inland waterways they bring tunes and songs, traditional and modern, along with their own compositions. They are:
Paul Baker, a Melodeon devotee and collector who started his folk music journey whilst at the University in Sheffield. There he formed the ceilidh band Hekety with friends including Richard and Jess Arrowsmith (Melrose Quartet).
Martin Vogwell (guitar/mandola/vocals) has been a touring musician for over 25 years, ten of which have been spent with Folklaw performing in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. He fronts the band Bewelian and also appears with his wife Emma in The Vogwells duo. Martin’s writing is inspired by archive material and the stories of the canals.
Emma Vogwell has been a touring musician for many years, bringing vocals, saxophone and whistle to many bands, folk or otherwise. With Martin in The Vogwells duo they have been active in the Gloucestershire folk scene collaborating with the late collector Gwilym Davies and Steve Rowley in releasing the GlosTrad project.
Polly Stirzaker (Northumbrian small pipes/whistle) has a long history with traditional music and instruments including busking with the highland pipes on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh in her younger years. To Cobblers Child, Polly brings the unique sound of the Northumbrian pipes, which she learned at an evening class whilst working in Newcastle.
The Three Fiddles Project comprise three great fiddle players (Heather McFarlane, Bernie Kilbride, Peter Miln) from the British celtic diaspora and one rhythm mandocello player (Dan James). Formed for the love of traditional tunes and the sound of three violins together. The players all have extensive live experience and have played at and continue to play many festivals and prestigious venues in the UK and beyond. Expect rip-roaring tune sets as well as gentler Slow airs filled with emotion and beautiful string harmonies with subtle interplay from all over Europe and beyond.
There will be a selection of tables and chairs set out in the hall for you to choose from on arrival.
